Crystal Hope is a representation of the beauty and diversity of light found in the LGBTQ community. While non-binary, this figure displays a feminine aspect of strength through softness. They are unapologetic in their personhood, a beacon of power and acceptance. They call us all to action in the building of a world where all unique beings are celebrated for exactly who they are. This is the golden light of hope that frames Crystal.
This is an original mixed media on canvas. Multiple layers of paint, paper and ephemera can be seen throughout the painting. The base color is a mood lilac/pink striation. The crop top and skirt are drawn and cut from a white marble card stock. Faux leather accents are adhered to attach the skirt to the top. Each individual crystal is stamped on card stock, colored with markers and gel pen, cut out by hand and affixed one by one to the skirt in a rainbow arrangement. Her earrings are metal clockwork gears fixed into the canvas. I painted the face, body and hair and embellished with micron pen. All 4 edges of the canvas are coated in gold leaf and the sides of the canvas in alcohol ink.
The entire canvas is finished and protected in multiple coats of Mod Podge sealer. Go ahead and touch, but best not to store the canvas against anything. Direct sunlight can fade colors, so display responsibly. This piece is fitted with a gallery quality wire hanger and is ready to be displayed. It is signed and date on the back.
